Hey y'all! I finally got my Peaceful Cabin Bundle on Friday, so I spent some time working with it over the past weekend. That was fun and entertaining. Before I go any farther on this post, I just need to interject something here - I'm so bummed that we didn't get even one little trick-or-treater stopping by our home. The neighborhood was so quiet we could hear all the crickets - literally! Rick and I sat out at the end of our driveway all excited to meet some families, or even just the kids from the neighborhood. But there were none at all that showed up with their happy faces and giggles. So sad. 😢😢 And now what am I ever going to do with all that candy?!?
Okay, enough of the sad story and let's get back to the fun stuff. I love blue and white Christmas cards, don't you? I've always thought they look so classy. So that was what I planned to make with on my first attempt at using this new stamp set and matching dies. Here's what I came up with...
The cardstock is all white on white with Night of Navy ink through out. Pretty basic, but it was interesting trying to get a nice balance of open space and images. The base of the card is a half sheet of the White Thick cardstock that is scored and folded in half. The next layer is Basic White cut at 5 1/4" x 4". This was embossed with the Evergreen Forest 3D Embossing Folder making sure the embossed trees were quite close to the top of this layer. This was set aside until I could see how the card came together.
Next I stamped the cabin in Night of Navy ink on a piece of Basic White cardstock that was trimmed to 5 1/4" wide x about 3 1/2". I made sure the chimney of the cabin was right near the top of the piece of cardstock so the bottom would be blank. This was die-cut with the matching die.
Next up was stamping the trio of trees on another piece of Basic White cardstock. This was cut 5 1/4" x 3 1/4". Again the stamping had the largest tree right near the top of the cardstock piece. This was also die-cut with the matching die. When layering these together, I wanted to make sure there was space behind to show off the embossed background, but didn't want the cabin and trees too separated.
At this time, the sentiment from the Peaceful Cabin set was stamped in Night of Navy ink onto the bottom right corner in the snowdrift.
At this point came the shuffling of pieces on the card front to see where the final layout would be. It seemed like there was still way too much bare white showing for my liking, so I stamped just a light sprinkling of stars/snowflakes in the sky with Balmy Blue ink. The two stamped and die-cut layers were attached together at the bottom of the tree layer with adhesive. I tucked in a Dimensional between the roof and the trees to make the cabin sit forward a bit. Then the two layers together were attached to the card base with Dimensionals.
The card still looked a little bland, so I stamped and die-cut the fence. This was attached with Mini Dimensionals. A few of the Subtle Shimmer Sequins were attached to the sky area with a dot of Multi Purpose Liquid Glue to hold in place.
Well, I don't know about you, but I do like how this turned out. This might be the style of some of my personal cards that go out this year. Especially since we've moved here to the south where I'm not expecting to see just too much snow for Christmas. I guess I'll just have to make some of my own snowy scenes!
Thanks for stopping in today. If you plan on ordering soon, please consider using the current host code at the top right of this post. And my clever husband set it up so you can just click on the host code and it'll take you right to the Stampin'Up! website. Thank God for handy husbands! He really does come in handy quite often. Shhh... don't tell him that I was bragging on him again!
Happy stamping and creating! It's definitely the best therapy!!
Hugs,
Sharon
