Shepherd's Care in Blue

Hello, my stamping friends!  This has been a busy week getting back to normal around here.  Hubby and a neighbor are replacing a wooden fence between our properties that was ruined in the hurricane.  They've been working all day for the last 4 days hauling lumber, cutting wood, digging fence post holes, screwing pieces together.  These guys have been working so hard they can hardly make it into the house for dinner.  And then it's lights out.  I think I'm exhausted just watching them!  Thank God that by tomorrow they should be done with this project.  Wonder what they'll think to do next?  

I can tell you what I decided to make next.  I got the Shepherd's Care stamp set and kept putting it aside to get to later.  Well, today was the later.  I have several ideas rolling around for this set, but I decided to start easy without too many layers and such.  Here's my first attempt.

I know I've mentioned I love the colors of navy and white on my Christmas cards.  That's what I started out with for my first card.  I had envisioned the shepherd being stamped on a Countryside Corners die-cut piece.  He fit on the 2nd largest piece very nicely.  It's die-cut from Basic White cardstock and the shepherd is stamped with Night of Navy ink.  He's positioned to the left and down near the bottom, so part of the stamp is off the layer.  The star that is part of the set is stamped with navy also.  It's stamped in the top right corner right near the edge.

The card base is Night of Navy cardstock.  It measures 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" and is scored and folded in half.

The next layer is Misty Moonlight.  That was enough to brighten up the card somewhat.  The layer measures 5 1/4" x 4".  This is embossed with the Snowflake Sky 3D Embossing Folder.  It's found on page 129 in the Annual Catalog.  This adds a very subtle design to this layer.  

Next, an 8" length of the Silver and White 1/2" Sheer Ribbon is attached around the Misty Moonlight layer.  This ribbon is also available in the Annual Catalog.  The ribbon is a little more than 1/2" in from the left edge.  I used two small strips of Tear & Tape to hold the ribbon in place around the back side of the layer.  Then the layer was attached to the Night of Navy card base.  For this I used "green glue" to hold in place. 

I attached the shepherd layer over the ribbon.  For this card, I used "green glue" to attach it.  Looking back at the finished card, I think I might attach this layer using Dimensionals next time instead.

I wanted a sparkly star in the sky instead of just the navy.  I didn't have anything current that had a star die, so I went in my retired stash and found the Stars at Night die set.  This set has several star dies, and it had a die that matched the star already stamped so I used that.  

I liked the idea of sparkles, so I hit my Specialty DSP stash and found a Silver Glimmer Paper that was just what I was looking for.  I cut one star from a scrap and attached it over the navy star using a Mini Dimensional.  Just the look I wanted!  

The sentiment is from the Shepherd's Care stamp set.  I've been using this a lot on my Christmas cards lately.  I love the wording and Peace on Earth is so needed these days.  It's stamped with Night of Navy ink onto a 1/2" strip of Basic White cardstock that was available.  It's trimmed to fit and attached to the card front with Mini Dimensionals.

I was hoping to find a gem that reminded me of stars in the night sky.  After trying several that were so-so, I tried the Iridescent Facets Gems.  Oh my, yes!  These can be found on page 115 in the Annual Catalog.  The picture in the catalog just doesn't do these gems justice.  They are so pretty and eye-catching.  Loved adding them for my nighttime stars.

One last picture of this lovely card.  For being so simple to make, it sure looks dramatic.  If you don't have this particular star die, use what you have.  And if I didn't have silver glitter paper, I would have used silver foil paper.  

I hope you give this idea a try.  I know I'm making some of these cards for my own Christmas cards this year.  I love sending out a card that follows a Christian theme for Christmas.  I know there are plenty of gorgeous and fun cards available, but for myself, I try to have a Christian theme.

Night Divine Nativity Card

 Happy Monday to you.  Things are getting busier as Christmas approaches.  There's always so much to do and get finished before the big day approaches.  In all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, so often we lose sight of what the season is all about.  This is a gentle reminder that Jesus is the reason for the season.  I've made several versions of this card and decided to share this one as it's my favorite of them all.  Hope you like it too.

Dies:  Stars at Night and Night Divine

Cardstock:  Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla

Ink:  Pecan Pie

Extras:  Shining Brightly DSP, Distressed Gold Specialty Paper, Dimensionals

The nativity set is die-cut from Crumb Cake cardstock.  It's attached low on the DSP with the bottoms of the side beams shortened to fit the landscape style card.  

Two die-cut stars are attached to the roof of the stable.  Merry Christmas is fussy cut then attached to the left by using Dimensionals.

This is a very quick card to put together.  For some reason, I keep using die-cut stars instead of the Adhesive-backed Star Trinkets which I bought to use with these cards.  On one of these cards, those Star Trinkets will finally show up.  I really did use them, I promise.

Glory to God Christmas Card

 Hi!  I woke up this morning with this idea in my head.  I finally got downstairs today to make it and thought I'd share it right away.  If you're still looking for super quick cards to make, this one (or two) truly fit the bill.  Enjoy!

Couldn't decide on the orientation of the card, so I did it both ways.  I like how both of them turned out.  

The stars are a little different on the two cards, but those are the only changes.  This card is so quick and easy to make.  Just get everything die-cut, then put it all together.

Merriest Trees Card

 Hey there!  Have you been dealing with lots of rain lately?  We sure have.  There were 1 3/4 inches that fell just yesterday alone.  So glad we don't have to worry about flooding anymore!  And after two days of rain, I woke up to sunshine and blue skies this morning.  What a pleasant surprise.  It's gotten me invigorated to get on with the card sending.  All the cards for the shut-ins from church down here have been made.  This morning was time for adding the inserts, getting them in the envelopes, adding postage, and mailing them.  I'm finished except for going to the Post Office to mail them.  Seems like the mailman doesn't like picking up 26 cards all at once.  Oh well, at least it's a nice day for running errands!  Now that those are all taken care of, it's back to making my own cards.  Today I have a card to share made with the Merriest Trees die set.  I didn't stamp the tree at all (just sentiments), but I did die-cut the different elements to make this one.

I keep looking at the finished card and wondering if it's too busy.  It's got a lot more going on than what I normally make.  What do you think?  The card starts with a half sheet of Lost Lagoon measuring 8 1/2" x 5 1/2".  It's scored and folded in half.   

 

The first layer is Basic White that measures 4 1/8" x 5 3/8".  This is a very skinny layer behind the next layer which is the Tartan Foil Specialty Paper that is an Online Exclusive only.  This paper is so pretty, and I thought it would make a great focal point for the card.  The layer is cut at 5 1/4" x 4".  It's wrapped with a piece of Silver and White Sheer Ribbon that is attached to the back.  After adding the ribbon, attach the DSP to the Basic White layer with adhesive.  These get attached to the card base with adhesive also.  

 

The love and joy are a stamp in the Merriest Trees set.  They were stamped with Lost Lagoon ink and fussy-cut apart to place on either side of the tree.  They are attached with segments of Mini Dimensionals.

The Merry Christmas comes from the Stars At Night set.  It's also stamped with Lost Lagoon ink and fussy-cut.

The silver trim on the tree is part of the same set we've been focusing on.  It's cut from Silver Foil.  It was backed a section of Adhesive Sheet before die-cutting.  This made it so easy to just peel and stick the trim where I wanted it to be.  After the trim was added, the sentiment was placed over this with Dimensionals.  

One of the star dies from the Stars At Night Bundle was die-cut from the More Dazzle Specialty Paper.  I thought it was a nice sparkly addition to the design.

This is where I might have gone a little overboard on the additions.  Three little clear Rhinestone Basic Jewels were added to the tree for decoration.  Too much?  Tell me what you think.  

I was making changes to my design all along the way.  The tree was going to be the backside of the DSP which has a white background with  different plaid.  It looked too white against the white layer, so it turned into the darker side of the paper.  With the darkness of the tree, I struggled to figure out how to brighten it.  That's how I think I over did it.  Ah yes, another work in progress.

Thanks for stopping in to see what's new.  I've been stamping up a storm of Christmas cards and I'm running out of time to share them all.  I might do the blog posts a little different for the next week or two.  If I just share a card or two using the same set or DSP without all the directions it would go much quicker.  Besides, most of these cards are pretty straightforward and don't need lots of details.  What do you think?  More cards and less talk for the next two weeks?  Or stay as it is and post every 2-3 days?  I can do it either way.  Or maybe a mix of the two plans?  Give me some input here.  I'm running out of time.

Back with More Stars at Night

Hi all.  Seems like there's been a little flu bug going around in the area and it made a visit to our family members.  Wasn't that nice?  Can you hear the sarcasm?  Seems like something is always happening to throw me off track lately.  But we pick ourselves up and carry on.  The card for today was made before things got bogged down.  But it's still a lovely card and, it's time to share this with you.  I love the Stars At Night set!  The stars are beautiful, and I love that the set has a hybrid embossing folder/die set that work together to die-cut stars with incredible embossed detail.  When it's used with the Silver or Gold Foil Papers, oh my!  Let's get started and you can see what I mean.

See?  Gorgeous, right?  I love all the bits of detail on this card that look like a lot of work, but it's quite easy to get done.  The card starts with a card base of Night of Navy.  Yes, I'm stuck on my navy and silver Christmas look.  The base measures 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" that's scored at 4 1/4" and folded in half to make a regular card.  

The front of the card base is embossed with the Snowflake Sky Embossing Folder found in the Mini Catalog.  Because the front of the card is embossed, there is extra texture without adding any extra bulk on the card.  But it adds another layer of appeal to the design.

The strip of a starry sky comes from the Oh Holy Night Designer Series Paper.  I had a strip of this paper that was only 1 1/2" wide.  What can you do with that?  I think it packs a big wow on this card carrying through with the starry night feel of the card.  I cut it at 5 1/4" long and attached it to a strip of Silver Foil Specialty Paper that measures 1 3/4" x 5 1/2".  They are layered together with adhesive. Then this is attached to the card front using adhesive about 1/2" from the left side.

A piece of Silver Foil was cut a little larger than the largest star in the Hybrid Embossing Folder.  The matching die was added in the folder over the stars before embossing and cutting at the same time.  Awesome.  I'm amazed at how detailed the embossed images are on this star!  I thought it would need some other stars layered here, but it already looks like it has layers on it.  I had to touch it several times to make sure I hadn't layered a star on it already.  So, why mess with it?  I left it as is and only used a single layered star here.  The star is attached to the card front using Dimensionals for mounting.  It is not layered symmetrically on the strips, but over to the right onto the snowflake sky.

The sentiment used is from the Night Divine set.  I've mentioned before how much I love these sentiments and have used them often.  The sentiment is stamped on a Basic White cardstock piece using Night of Navy ink.  Then it is fussy cut around it.  It's attached to the card front to the right side using Mini Dimensionals.

The inside of the card is stamped on a Basic White cardstock layer that measures 5 1/4" x 4".  The sentiment used here is from the Brightest Glow stamp set found in the Annual Catalog.  It's stamped in Night of Navy ink to match the rest of the card.

There is a star cluster stamped in the bottom right corner of the card.  This comes from the Stars at Night set.  It is inked in Night of Navy ink then off-stamped before stamping on the card to give it a slightly softer look.  The layer is attached inside the card using adhesive.

Now, for the embellishments.  I tried several different gems and sequins on the card for the crisp, clear night sky look.  I finally chose the Rhinestone Basic Jewels that are clear.  That gave me the best look of stars in the night sky.

The center of the large star needed something a little more impressive than the clear rhinestones.  I chose the Tinsel Gems 3 Pack with this lovely blue gem.  The catalog says it's Misty Moonlight, but I thought it worked perfectly here.

Of course, you could easily turn this card into a landscape look by just changing the orientation of the star and sentiment.  Maybe I'll do one that way too and see which way I like it better.

Blue Tree Card

Hello!  It's been so cold here the last few days.  The temps have been in the low 30's and quite breezy, but at least there is sunshine today.  The wind is doing a good job of knocking down the leaves.  We have so many trees that my hubby is out there blowing them every day.  We started getting all the outdoor decorations placed.  They are all coming along nicely, so we're taking a break.  At least I get to stay inside for a while where it's toasty warm and cozy.  All the cold was making me think about cards in blues and silvers.  You know I like my blue cards, so let's share another one today.

It was so funny trying to take the pictures of this card.  The silver layer is so shiny that all the pics were showing a reflection of my arm.  Didn't think you wanted to see my blue arm in the photo.  At least my sweater matched the card!

The card base is Blueberry Bushel.  It measures 11" x 4 1/4", scored at 5 1/2" and folded in half. The first layer is the shiny Silver Foil.  It's cut to 5 1/4" x 4".  Before attaching this to the card base, cut a rectangle from the center with the Scalloped Contours Dies.  No one will see the hole in the layer because it will be hidden.  Attach with adhesive to keep it flat so far.

The next layer is from the Winter Meadow DSP, and it measures 5" x 3 3/4".  This is the third time I've used this lovely print on the cards I've shared.  There is just something about it that draws me to it, and I keep reaching for this print all the time.  Looks like it needs to go on my shopping list because I've just about used it all except for some scraps.  Anyway, this layer is attached over the silver layer using adhesive.

A tree was cut from Blueberry Bushel cardstock using the Forever Forest Dies.  This is mounted onto the die-cut silver rectangle that was already cut.  It's attached with adhesive along the left edge of the silver with part of the branches hanging over the edge.  A piece of the Silver and White 1/2" Sheer Ribbon was wrapped around near the bottom and tied into a knot.  Trim the ends with snips.  I like the added ribbon here, because it looks so shivery cold.  This layer is added to the card front using Dimensionals.

The sentiment is from the Stars At Night Bundle.  I love the font on this Merry Christmas greeting.  It is stamped with Blueberry Bushel ink onto a Basic White piece.   A favorite retired punch from Stampin'Up! was used because it fit nicely.  It's attached to the card front using Dimensionals.

The inside of the card starts with a layer of Basic White cardstock cut to measure 5 1/4" x 4".  It features another of the die-cut Blueberry Bushel trees from the Forever Forest set.  There is also a 1" strip of the same DSP print that I had leftover.  I made use of it attached near the bottom of the Basic White layer.

The sentiment is from the Wishes All Around stamp set.  It's stamped in Blueberry Bushel ink.  The layer is attached inside the card, as usual, with adhesive.

There are a few other embellishments to finish the card.  One of the stars in the Stars At Night Bundle was die-cut from the More Dazzle Specialty Paper.  I liked the glittery-ness of the star because it contrasted nicely with the shiny silver.  It's attached with a Mini Glue Dot. It's also partially off the silver layer to help it stand out.

There are also some Blueberry Bushel gems added to the card.  They're from the Tinsel Gems Four-Pack.  Instead of snowflakes or clear gems, I thought the blue ones were the perfect accent.

That's it for today's card share.  If you've got the items used, this card goes together so quickly!  If you're wanting to make multiples of these cards, just do everything in stages and put together when all the pieces are ready.  Easy peasy.  

PS, did you notice the blue sleeve reflection at the bottom of this photo?  You should have seen the contortions I went through to get these pictures without a reflection.  You would have been laughing at me like crazy.

Stars At Night Fun Fold

Hey y'all!  Having a great day.  Hubby is coming home from a trip to the farm.  That won't be happening too many more times.  Ahh, changes.  Life is an ongoing process, isn't it?  Finally getting around to posting this card in the Stars At Night series.  Hope you've enjoyed them so far.  Today's card is simple, but I think it's rather cool.  Give a look and tell me what you think.

It looks just like a regular card when it comes out of the envelope, but then it pops out a little and stands up really nice.   To get started, use a piece of Boho Blue cardstock measuring 8 1/2" x 5 1/2".  It's scored at 2 1/8" and 4 1/4" to get the fold back flap on the card front.  Cut another piece of Boho Blue that measures 3 7/8" x 5 1/8".

This smaller piece of Boho Blue was embossed with the Hybrid Embossing Folder that coordinates.  To help the stars show up a little better on the blue, I inked the embossing folder with Craft White ink.  The ink was only on the side of the embossing folder that has the Stampin' Up! logo on it.  I love how it softly defines all the stars both large and small.  This layer was then attached to a Basic White layer with "green glue".  The Basic White layer measures 5 1/4" x 4".  Cut two of these so you have one for the inside of the card.

The next step is folding the card base.  Fold in half, then fold the front flap back on itself.  Two strips of Tear & Tape were added to this as shown.  The Basic White layer was added to this trying to keep the edges all the same, so it has a frame of Boho Blue surrounding this.

I cut a piece of Vellum about 4" x 5".  I placed the coordinating hybrid die over the three large stars then added the Vellum piece.  Ran it through the embossing machine and set the stars aside.    There is a 1" x 4" strip of Vellum cut that was embossed with the edge of the embossing folder on that piece of Vellum.

The smaller star is attached over the larger star using a Mini Glue Dot in the middle.  This double star is then attached over the embossed star on the card front using a Dimensional in the middle only.  I prefer having the stars raised up without a lot of glue holding them together.

A small star die was used to cut some More Dazzle Specialty Paper.  This was attached in the center of the stars using one Mini Glue Dot only in the center like all the others.  This More Dazzle Paper star really gives it some lovely shine and sparkle.

The sentiment layer is Basic White cardstock stamped with the greeting that comes from the Brightest Glow stamp set.  Boho Blue ink was used.  The Labels Aglow die was used to cut this.  

The embossed strip of Vellum was attached about 1/2" from the bottom.  Adhesive was placed down the center behind where the label is attached.  The label is raised up on Dimensionals and placed in the center of the Vellum strip.  

The extra Basic White layer has one of the sentiments from the Brightest Glow set stamped in Boho Blue ink.  The stardust stamp is used to embellish each corner of the inside of the card using Boho Blue ink.  The white layer is attached inside the card making sure that it doesn't show from the front.  I had an extra star die-cut from the More Dazzle paper left-over, so that was attached in the top left corner near the sentiment.  A Mini Glue Dot was used for this.

Here's a quick view of the inside of the card.

The last little bit of bling on this card are the Rhinestone Basic Jewels.  I thought their clear shine was the best addition for this card.   I love how this card turned out.  I'm frustrated that I only used blue and silver for all three of the Stars At Night series cards.  I really will have to see what else I can design with this lovely set.  But I have to admit, I'm really partial to blue and silver together.  It's so elegant in my opinion, so what's not to like?

More Stars

Hello friends!  Sorry for the long wait between posts.  Life just takes a few twists and turns, and then my schedule seems to get totally out of control.  I don't know whether I'm coming or going sometimes!  Let's hope things quiet down around here and we get back to normal.  Whatever that is!  Today I'm sharing another card using the new Stars At Night stamp set with coordinating dies.   Oh yes, it showcases the Oh Holy Night Designer Series Paper for a lovely starry background.  Let's get started making this card.

Isn't this starry print just gorgeous?  I wish you could see it in person.  It's so rich looking!  Once I had this idea in my head, this card almost made itself!  It starts with a base of Night of Navy cardstock that measures 8 1/2" x 5 1/2".  It's scored at 4 1/4" and folded in half.  A layer of Basic White was cut at 4" x 5 1/4".  Cut two of the white layers so you have one for the inside of the card.  The starry DSP layer measures 3 7/8" x 5 1/8".  I only wanted a very small white frame around it, so you've got measurements in eighths.  Sometimes I think the tiny white frame actually gives the card more of a pop.  My preference.  You could always cut it a little smaller to have a bigger white frame.

To start, layer the DSP onto the Basic White layer.  I used "green glue" on the outer edges of the layers only because I wanted the die-cut area to be separate.  One of the dies in the set cut out the multi-pronged star and all the tiny dots of light surrounding it.  That is what was used through the two layers that were glued together.  Because the center wasn't glued, these die-cut sections have a tendency to rise up somewhat and don't lay totally flat.  

A 5 1/2" length of the Silver & White Sheer Ribbon was wrapped around to the back and taped down.  This is about 1" from the bottom edge.  After the ribbon was attached, the entire layer was attached to the folded navy card base.  I used "green glue" for this.  You can see the navy background shows through the card front.

Two of the stars from the Stars At Night die set were cut from the More Dazzle Specialty Designer Series Paper.  The smaller star is attached over the larger one with a Mini Glue Dot between them.  They are attached to the card front using cut pieces of Dimensionals to hold it up away from the card base.

The smallest label die from the Something Fancy dies set was used to cut a Basic White label.  The sentiment is from the Stars At Night stamp set and is stamped with Night of Navy ink.  The label is attached over the strip of ribbon using Dimensionals.  Another length of ribbon was used to make a bow which was attached right at the edge of the tag.  It's held on with Mini Glue Dots.

On the 2nd piece of Basic White cardstock that you already cut, stamp the sentiment for the inside of the card with Night of Navy ink.  This sentiment comes from the Brightest Glow set.  The sprinkle of stardust is from the Stars At Night set.  They are stamped with Night of Navy ink that has been off-stamped.  The white layer is attached inside the card with "green glue".

The final touch on the card is of course the bling.  Even with the More Dazzle stars and the silver edged ribbon, I decided to add just a little more bling to the card.  I thought the Rhinestone Basic Jewels would be just the right touch.  A larger one was added to the center of the star.  Three smaller ones were added around the card front.  Simple and subtle.

I really enjoyed making this card.  I fussed around with the die-cut star background trying to decide how I wanted it to look.  I originally wanted something sparkly because of the shining star, but I ended up with the dark to highlight the star instead.  

Hope you like this card.  I have one more to share with you using this set, then it's on to another set.  I figured this way I would actually use all the sets I have instead of forgetting one (or more) and being very unhappy with myself.  Hopefully it won't take me so long to get the next post done.  Sorry again for the delay.  Thanks for spending some crafty time with me.  Hope you give this Stars At Night Bundle a try.  I think it's well worth it.

Stars At Night

Hello friends!   Hope you're doing well today.  I figured it was time to abandon my Autumn Leaves series of posts for a while.  After the back-ordered items came in and promptly sold out again, it was time to focus on a different bundle.  So, today we'll start a new series of cards using the Stars At Night Bundle found on page 17 of the new September - December Mini Catalog as the main item.  It's really a lovely stamp set with a coordinating Hybrid Embossing Folder and Die set.  I think there's going to be many creative possibilities with this bundle, and I can't wait to try them.

Here's the first one I've made, and I love it.  It's a fairly simple Christmas card to make, but quite elegant.  My friend Ruth shared a photo of a similar card but gave me no instructions or details.  Thanks for the idea, Ruth.  This is my version of her card. 

I started with a card base of Basic White Thick cardstock that measures 8 1/2" x 5 1/2".  It's scored in half and folded.  Next a layer of Night of Navy cardstock was cut at 5 1/4" x 4" and a layer of Vellum was cut at 3 3/4" x 5".  The Vellum layer was embossed using only the Stars at Night Embossing Folder, not the dies at this time.  Doesn't the embossed vellum have absolutely beautiful detail?

To attach it to the Night of Navy cardstock layer, I put a strip of adhesive behind the area where the More Dazzle would be placed.  Then I used rolled up Mini Glue Dots behind the larger stars to hold in place.

Here's another look at the detail on the embossed Vellum.  

Next a strip of the silver More Dazzle Specialty Paper was cut to measure 1" x 3 3/4".  This was attached to the card front with Seal Adhesive across the back of the specialty paper to hold in place.  Two of the stars were die-cut from this paper also.  I'm not sure you can see the smaller star on top of the long skinny star.  The larger star was attached with Mini Glue Dots, but the small star has a Mini Dimensional behind it to define it better.

The sentiment from the Stars At Night set was stamped with Night of Navy ink onto a Basic White piece that measures about 1 1/2" x 2".  It's die-cut using the coordinating die.  Don't you love the interesting shape of this piece?  This is added over the More Dazzle strip using Dimensionals.

The last step was adding the Rhinestone Basic Jewels.  For this card, I thought the crystal clear gems were the best accent.  Two of the larger gems were added to the larger stars, and three of the smaller stars have the small rhinestones added.  With adding the rhinestones directly over the Mini Glue Dots holding the Vellum layer, they are completely hidden.  You could use different rhinestones or sequins if you prefer of course.
