Fun Fold Card Ideas

Hello friends.  I've been working on a new-to-me fun fold idea.  The first one I made just flew together with ease.  I wanted to share at least two ideas with the fun fold, so I started making the second one.  That was a real struggle, not looking the way I envisioned at all.  So on to the third card.  Hmmm, that's still sitting on my desk alongside the second try.  Ok, let's try the fourth card and see what happens.  And yes!  It worked and I'm happy with it.  Who knew it would be so hard to make two cards that were based on the same basic idea, but with enough changes that they didn't look like the very same card.  Part of my problem was wanting to stay with the same die-cut shapes.  As soon as I scratched that idea today, the card came together with no problem.  At least I have two ideas for you.

This is called a Left Side-Box Fun Fold.  This first picture shows you the card as it would look coming out of the envelope.  Cute right there, but it gets even better as you'll see.  They are so cool standing up and showing off.  Wish you could see this in person.

The materials for this card are Lost Lagoon cardstock, Basic White cardstock, and some of the Tartan Foil Specialty DSP in the Lost Lagoon color.  I thought this color would be a good backdrop for these Friendly Seagulls that are a cool pick during Sale-a-bration.  Isn't this just fun?

Start with a 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of Lost Lagoon.  This is scored at 1/2", 2 1/8", 2 5/8", and 4 1/4".  Fold along these score lines inward to make the box.  Make sure you use a bone folder on the creases to make them sharp.   Open this up and lay flat to attach the two smaller pieces of DSP on the outside.

Cut DSP 5 3/8" x 3 5/8" for one piece and cut two pieces at 5 3/8" x 1 1/2".  The two smaller pieces are attached to the matching areas on the "box".  The larger piece is for the inside of the card.  For this card, these two prints are the two sides of the same piece of DSP.

I used "green glue" for attaching the DSP to make sure I had enough time to get the pieces totally even top and bottom.  I didn't attach the inside piece of DSP until the "box" was put together.

While the card is lying flat with the DSP showing, add a strip of Tear & Tape to the 1/2" scored area at the side edge.  Fold into the box shape to make sure it all fits correctly.  Then open again and take off the backing on the tape.  Fold the 1/2" area in, then fold in on the 2 5/8" score line so the edge of the card lands right near the center score line.  Make sure it's adhered well.  Then add the larger piece of DSP to the inside of the card.  Are you with me so far?

Now it's time to make the focal piece and the inner sentiment areas.  I chose to use the Everyday Details Dies to make the two Lost Lagoon layers.  The Deckled Circles Dies fit in nicely so that's what was used here to die-cut two Basic White focal areas.

On the front piece, a light area of Lost Lagoon was added with a Blending Brush to the sky area.  And a small amount of Crumb Cake was added to the sandy area with another Blending Brush.

The seagulls were stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Basic White cardstock.  Color was added with Stampin' Blends:  Daffodil Delight Dark, Gray Granite Light & Dark.  The birds were fussy cut and placement was decided.

The sentiment is from the Friendly Seagulls and was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The pebbly sand was stamped lightly and randomly with Crumb Cake ink.  The seagulls were attach using a Mini Glue Dot on the feet and Dimensionals on the body.

For the inside of the card, I used a sentiment from the Latte Love stamp set (which is a Last Chance item).  This is stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  There is both the Lost Lagoon and Crumb Cake ink lightly blended onto this piece just like the front.  Just a few of the pebbly sand pieces were added.  The school of fish was stamped to the side in black, then colored with Lost Lagoon Blends.  Several more fish were stamped onto a scrap of the Tartan Plaid DSP and cut out to use on the card front.

To put the card together, close the card with the box lying flat.  I held the front circles in place in the center of the card and used a pencil to lightly mark behind the circle onto the 1/2" strip.  Add a strip of Tear & Tape inside these marks.  Remove backing and lay the circles onto the tape on the card front.  When you open the card, the box will form, and the circles will stand out.  Next attach the inner circles to hide behind the front so they aren't visible when the card is closed.

The last step for this card was adding the Pebbles in the sand.  And don't forget the fish that were fussy cut and tucked in his mouth.  He's guarding his stash of fish down by his feet.

Ok, I did say there was another card with the same Left Side Box fun fold.  This one took several days, but you tell me what you think.

For this card, Petal Pink was the card base color.  The pink striped print paper is from the Wildflower Birthday DSP that is just so pretty and girlie.  I paired it with Basic White and Calypso Coral cardstocks.

Instead of the circles for the focal point, I went with heart dies from the Hearts of Elegance Bundle.  I love all those sizes of hearts to play with.  The third largest heart cut two Calypso Coral hearts.  The fourth largest cut two Basic White hearts. The smallest heart die cut one each of Petal Pink and Calypso Coral.  There's a tiny heart punched from a mini punch from my retired stash.  The flower was die-cut using the Country Birdhouse dies.

The card is put together in the same way as the first card with all the sizes and scoring measurements the same.

The sentiments both outside and inside the card are from the Hugs for Love stamp set.  If you haven't noticed, I just love the sentiments in this set!  Both sentiments were stamped with Calypso Coral ink.  The hearts on the card front were attached the same way with a strip of Tear & Tape on the 1/2" box fold.

The extra small hearts were attached inside the card where they peek out when the card is closed.  I'm still debating whether I want to go back and add a few more of the tiny punched hearts for accents.

Lastly are the gems that were added.  These are the pink ones from the 2024-2026 In Color Shimmer Gems.  Aren't they pretty?  They're not quite the exact shade of pink, but they blend so nicely.

Well, that's it.  Now I've got to figure out what to do with the piles of partial card pieces that are sitting on my table.  Who knows just where those pieces will end up next?!

Thanks for sharing your time with me today.  I look forward to sharing another creation or two with you soon.  If you'd like to place an order, I would be happy to be your demonstrator.  If you'd like to order, please consider using the Host Code shown at the top of this blog.  Thanks so much for your kindness.  And please go ahead and post a comment and let me know what you think about this new-to-me fun fold.

A Little Latte Love

Hello Friends,  It's time for me to get creating cards for the shut-ins for the month of April.  Instead of making mostly one or two designs, this month it's going to be a hodge podge of different ideas.  Today I worked on five cards for the men.  Didn't want to do frilly flowers for them, so the Latte Love set said I needed to send them some coffee cards.  I started with one idea, and that morphed into using a different DSP and some extra small changes.  So, among the five cards, I don't think there are two quite alike.  Sometimes I just can't help myself from tweaking a little here and there as I go.  Do you have that problem too?  Anyway, here are the five cards I ended up with...

I stuck with mostly Misty Moonlight and Boho Blue for the overall cards.  The background layering papers are from the Poetic Expressions Designer Series Paper.  And the bundle used on each card was Latte Love.  That's the bare bones of what was used, but I'll share with you a little more in-depth as we go on.

East card has a base that measures 8 1/2" x 5 1/2".  This is scored and folded in half.  The first card uses Misty Moonlight for its base color.  The Victorian style print background is cut to measure 5 1/4" x 4".  It's attached to the card base by using adhesive.

My idea was to make it look like the cups are sitting on a table waiting for someone to sit down and join me in a cup of coffee or tea.  I used the Basic Borders die set to cut a pretty edge on the "tablecloth".  I used approximately a 1 1/4" - 1 1/2" strip wide and about 4 1/4" long.  The die was kept right near the bottom edge so it didn't cut off too much.

After cutting the edge to make the tablecloth, I decided it needed a tiny print to look more like a tablecloth.  I couldn't find a stamp that would work here, but I remembered the Wrapped in Texture Embossing Folders from the winter mini catalog.  I added Boho Blue ink to the raised design, then laid the open embossing folder onto the "tablecloth" to give it the print.  I liked how this added another bit of interest to the Boho Blue DSP print.

The small coffee cup dies were used to die-cut both Misty Moonlight and Boho Blue cups.  There is a tiny die that cuts two "liquids" inside the cups.  These were cut from Early Espresso cardstock.  Then using a tiny bit of "green glue", the coffee was added to each of the cups.

The sentiment is from the same set, and it was stamped on a 1" wide strip of Basic White using Misty Moonlight ink.  The sentiment is attached with Dimensionals.  Each coffee cup was attached with one Dimensional in the center.  I decided not to use any bling on this card.  Nothing seemed to really make the card stand out, so I went with it plain.

This is not the first design for the card, but I liked where it ended.  Keep reading for another take on this idea.

This card has a few changes.  The card base is Boho Blue.  The DSP print here is much lighter with a mix of Mossy Meadow and Boho Blue in the design.  Both of the cups were cut from Misty Moonlight cardstock.

I didn't like the "tablecloth" print together with this DSP print.  I tried a couple other designs, but I just didn't like them, so I left it plain white.  After looking at it awhile, I decided to add a little Mossy Meadow ink brushed on the top edge using the Blending Brushes.  It's very light, but it helps define the edge in person.

The sentiment was still stamped with Misty Moonlight, but the backing layer is Boho Blue cardstock.

On a couple of the cards, a small layer of Vellum was added under the center of the design to soften the blue print so the cups showed up better.

Ok, that's five cards down from the 23 that I need to make.  I'll be going through my stash of floral cards that I love making and hopefully find most of the cards I'll be needing.  We'll see how that goes.

Quick reminder that the sale on some of the retiring items starts on April 9th.  That's coming up soon.  Have you decided on your list yet?  Are you anxious and excited to see the new Annual Catalog?  It's coming soon.  If you don't have yours by the end of April, please let me know and I'll get one out to you.

New Latte Love Card

Hey ladies!  I was so tickled when I open my last delivery and got a good look at the new Online Exclusive bundle called Latte Love.  Oh, my goodness.  The set is so darn cute, and the DSP is really gorgeous with it.  I'm really excited about this whole suite.  It could be changed up to make a cup of hot chocolate or tea instead of coffee.  Whatever you prefer.  It all coordinates so well that it will be a real treat to create with this!  I already made a couple of cards with the set, well mostly the DSP.  Today will be the simpler card, and tomorrow's post will be the fun fold.  And then who knows what will be next.

Isn't this cool?  I love the hints of Petal Pink in the swirls.  It works so nicely with the Pecan Pie color.  Love it!

For this card, cut Pecan Pie cardstock to 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" to make a base.  It's scored and folded at 4 1/4".  Next is the lovely layer of A Little Latte Designer Series Paper.  It measures 5 1/4" x 3 7/8".  The pieces shown are the same piece, front and back sides showing.  The piece is cut at 2 1/4" lengthwise to make the two separate layers.  You decide which side you want to see the most of on your card.  The pieces are attached with "green glue" (Tombow Multi Purpose Adhesive).

Now, on to the focal piece.  The first thing was to cut out the cup from one of the sheets of DSP.  I love these ready-made cups on this sheet that you can just die-cut and go.  So quick and easy.  I chose the Calypso Coral cup with the artisan cream heart in the center.  This cup blended in nicely with the pinkish background.

I used the Perennial Postage die set to cut the Basic White label.  I wanted it to be close in size to the cup, so I used the 3rd largest rectangle die for this.  A Petal Pink layer was cut to frame this.  It measures 3" x 2 1/4".  Then a layer of Early Espresso was used to differentiate the focal point from the card base.  I tried Pecan Pie, and that just didn't work very well.

The white layer is stamped with one of the sentiments in the Latte Love set.  It is stamped with Early Expresso ink.  The white layer is attached to the Petal Pink, and then to the Early Espresso layer using adhesive.

Two 1" pieces were cut from the Polka Dot Trim that is part of this same suite of products.  Each of these were folded in half and attached under the right side of the focal piece using Stampin' Seal.   This is a really sticky tape, so it worked well here even though the ribbon was a little heavy and stiff.

After adding the ribbon, Dimensionals were added to the label and attached to the card front.  The die-cut cup was added to the bottom of the label with Dimensionals.

For little accents, three of the Adhesive-backed Swirl Dots were added to the card.  These little dots are also part of this suite and are the perfect addition here.  Actually, I think any one of the three colors in this embellishment set would work on this card.

The inside of the card has a layer of Petal Pink that measures 5 1/4" x 4".  On top of this is a layer of Basic White that measures 5" x 3 3/4".

One last look at the card.  I love the simplicity of the card, but it still looks like there is plenty going on.  Definitely not plain!  I thought of adding some speckling on the Basic White layer on the front to match the speckles on the DSP, but that seemed to be too much.  It needed a little white space amid all the prints in my humble opinion.

Hope you like this card idea.  If you like coffee (or tea or hot chocolate) it would be a fun set to use to create your projects.  This is my first attempt using this new suite and it was fun to do and I love how it turned out.  It really is a quick and simple card.  But like I mentioned in the beginning, tomorrow's card will be a fun fold.  Hope you come back for that one too.

Happy stamping and creating,
Sharon
